Publishers sue Google over AI training data
Copyright battles over AI training data are heating up. Major publishers just filed a class-action suit against Google, while Apple tightens its legal grip on former employees now at OpenAI. The day's legal news is dominated by fights over who owns the inputs to artificial intelligence.
AI copyright wars
Two fronts opened today in the fight over training data: publishers going after Google, and Apple pursuing its trade secrets case against OpenAI.
Apple sent legal preservation letters to roughly 40 former employees now at OpenAI, expanding its trade secrets lawsuit. The letters signal Apple is building a broad evidence-gathering effort.
Merger battles continue
The Paramount-WBD merger fight got a hearing date for the restraining order decision, while FIFA lost a court order over ticketing practices.
A federal judge will rule Wednesday on the TRO request to block the Paramount-WBD merger. The hearing Friday previewed the arguments: the AGs call it anticompetitive; Paramount calls it one of the weakest merger challenges in history.
A German court ordered FIFA to stop what a ticket resale platform called 'manipulative' ticketing practices ahead of the World Cup final, with fines up to €250,000 per violation for FIFA's leadership.
