The General George S. Patton Memorial Museum is inviting the community to a special meet and greet this Saturday to help support animals in need. The event runs from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Matzner Tank Pavilion in Chirico Summit and will benefit the museum's Friends of Willie program, which is named after General George S. Patton's beloved bull terrier. The volunteer-led program helps transport abandoned and stray animals to shelters and rescue organizations. Organizers of the event are asking for donations to help cover fuel costs for the transports. According to organizers, animals are sometimes accidentally left behind by campers; if they do not get hit by a car or an 18-wheeler, they risk being eaten by coyotes during their frantic search for food and survival. The program focuses on getting these animals caught and brought into the area so they can be transported down to campuses that accept and work with them.Coffee and refreshments will be available at the event, and guests are encouraged to bring their own pets to enjoy the morning.
