Bezos-Backed AI Startup Prometheus Raises $12 Billion for Physical Engineering Tools
Jeff Bezos' AI startup Prometheus has raised $12 billion in its second funding round, reaching a $41 billion valuation, according to The Verge. The company, which launched in November with an initial $6.2 billion raise, is focused on building AI models for physical tasks such as engineering, manufacturing, and drug design, as reported by CNBC. Prometheus aims to develop an "artificial general engineer", AI-powered tools to assist in designing physical products, The Verge reported. The startup is co-led by Bezos as co-CEO alongside Stanford professor Vik Bajaj, who previously co-founded Alphabet's Verily, according to CNBC. "Societal wealth is driven by invention and Prometheus aims to accelerate the invention loop through a set of tools," Bezos argued, as reported by Singularity Hub. The company's focus on physical engineering and drug design sets it apart from general-purpose AI ventures, The Verge noted. Investors in the latest round include Bezos, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and BlackRock, according to Singularity Hub. Prometheus has been secretive about its initial products and is actively recruiting talent, CNBC reported. The startup's emphasis on automating the design and manufacturing of complex physical systems underscores a growing trend in AI applications for industrial sectors.
