UK study finds two-thirds of disabled people feel unrepresented by government, one in three lack community belonging
A new UK study published by the Belonging Forum for Disability Pride Month reveals that one in three (34%) disabled people do not feel they belong in their communities, and two-thirds feel unrepresented by the UK Government. The research also found that nearly half (48%) of disabled LGBT+ people often feel lonely, compared to a quarter (25%) of non-disabled people, and disabled women experience loneliness more frequently than disabled men (42% vs 29%). The report highlights lower wellbeing, greater safety concerns, and weaker feelings of representation among disabled people.
