This pooled analysis of individual patient data from multicenter studies investigates the incidence, predictors, and impact of post-stroke acute heart failure (AHF) in patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) undergoing endovascular treatment (EVT). The study finds that post-stroke AHF occurs in a significant proportion of patients and is strongly associated with very poor functional outcomes and increased mortality. Mediation analysis reveals that the severity of cardioembolic stroke mediates the relationship between stroke and heart failure, suggesting shared pathophysiological mechanisms.
