Lionsgate has set a September 24, 2027 release date for a new installment in the Blair Witch Project franchise, Deadline reported. The film will be produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, with YouTube horror filmmaker Dylan Clark attached to direct. The move marks a significant step for Clark, who previously gained attention online for his short horror films.
Clark's transition from digital content to theatrical horror continues a pattern that Polygon highlighted as "the franchise's tradition of launching filmmakers from digital content creation backgrounds." The original 1999 Blair Witch Project famously pioneered viral marketing using early internet tools, and subsequent entries have often embraced emerging filmmaking platforms.
Beyond the Blair Witch project, Clark is building momentum in the industry. Deadline reported that "Clark recently signed on to adapt his horror short Portrait of God with Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele producing." That combination of veteran horror producers further signals Clark's rising profile within the genre community.
The only other wide release currently scheduled for that September 2027 date is an untitled DreamWorks Animation film, according to Deadline. The new Blair Witch Project will be the first theatrical entry in the series since 2016's Blair Witch, which was directed by Adam Wingard and earned about $45 million worldwide.
