MGM+ has decided to end "Godfather of Harlem" after four seasons, giving the Forest Whitaker-led series a two-hour series finale rather than a full fifth season. TVLine reported that the finale is expected to air in early 2025, allowing the show to wrap up its story of 1960s Harlem crime boss Bumpy Johnson on the network's terms.

Creator Chris Brancato expressed gratitude for the opportunity to properly conclude the narrative. According to TVLine, Brancato said he was thankful to give the series "a proper and fitting conclusion." The decision to order a two-hour finale instead of a fifth season allows the creative team to craft a deliberate ending rather than leave viewers hanging.

Forest Whitaker, who stars as Bumpy Johnson, also shared his appreciation. TVLine reported Whitaker "expressed appreciation for the opportunity to give the series a fitting end." The show has been a cornerstone of MGM+'s original programming, blending historical figures like Malcolm X with fictional crime drama.

ftwr.cloud reported that "thrilling details about the two-hour finale" are emerging as the series prepares to close its story. While the network has not released a specific date beyond early 2025, fans can expect the extended episode to resolve ongoing arcs involving Johnson's empire and his relationships with figures such as Chin Gigante and the Italian mob.

"Godfather of Harlem" premiered in 2019 and quickly became a critical favorite for its period authenticity and Whitaker's performance. The two-hour conclusion will serve as the series' capstone, promising a final chapter that brings Bumpy Johnson's rise and fall to a close.
