Netflix has ordered a straight-to-series golf drama titled "Jupiter Island" from creator Connor Hines and production company A24, according to multiple outlets. Hines, who created FX's "Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette," will write and showrun the series, Deadline reported. The project represents a significant expansion into the world of professional golf for the streamer.
"loosely inspired by real-life events and celebrities in the PGA world" The Hollywood Reporter added that the series is "set in the exclusive Florida enclave that in real life is home to a number of PGA Tour pros." This real-world grounding gives the drama a foundation of authenticity among its fictional characters.
"The series follows what happens when a mysterious outsider arrives on ultra-exclusive Jupiter Island, threatening the world of professional golfers and their wives, particularly a secret involving golf's reigning power couple" The plot leverages the tension between wealth, secrecy, and competition, centering on a secret that could upend the sport's most dominant pair.
In conjunction with the series order, Netflix has signed an overall deal with Hines to exclusively develop new projects for the platform, according to Deadline. Whatfinger also confirmed the overall deal component of the announcement, noting Hines' previous work on the Kennedy-themed limited series.
Casting has not yet been announced for the drama, Variety reported. With A24 attached as the production studio, the series continues the company's push into prestige television alongside its film slate.
