Paramount has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery that makes its cable networks the exclusive linear television home for the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises. The deal, first reported by Variety, covers all eight original Harry Potter films and three Fantastic Beasts spinoffs. The A.V. Club confirmed that the films will air across MTV, the Paramount Network, Nickelodeon, and Nick at Nite.
MTV will launch the partnership with a marathon of every Harry Potter movie over Independence Day weekend. According to The A.V. Club, the marathon will air all eight original films starting July 3. Variety reported that the lineup runs from July 3 through July 5, marking the first time the franchise has been available on Paramount's linear channels.
"The deal makes Paramount the exclusive linear home of the franchise."
The move reflects a broader push to attract viewers through beloved intellectual property. Deadline noted that the arrangement "underscores Paramount's strategy of bringing major franchises to its diverse audience base." That audience spans youth-focused outlets like Nickelodeon and older-skewing channels such as Paramount Network, giving the films wide reach across generations.
Financial terms of the multi-year deal were not disclosed by any of the outlets. However, the agreement positions Paramount as the sole destination on traditional television for one of the most successful film series in history, at least until Warner Bros. Discovery's own streaming and linear plans evolve. The marathon next month gives fans a chance to revisit Hogwarts while giving Paramount a ratings boost over a holiday weekend.
