GameStop has partnered with Uber Eats to offer on-demand delivery of video games, consoles, accessories, and collectibles from its physical store locations. Digital Commerce 360 reported that the retailer made its products available on the Uber Eats marketplace starting July 15, allowing customers to schedule deliveries or receive them on demand. MarketWatch also confirmed that the service covers scheduled and immediate delivery through the ride-sharing platform.
According to Polygon, the partnership lets customers order from over 300 GameStop locations across the U.S. with delivery promised in under 30 minutes. Seeking Alpha noted that the initial offering includes consumer electronics alongside games and collectibles, as GameStop seeks to leverage Uber Eats' logistics network to adapt to declining physical game sales.
"whether consumers would pay $10-$15 extra for physical game discs in an increasingly digital gaming landscape"
Kotaku offered a skeptical take on the move, questioning the value proposition for shoppers already shifting toward digital downloads. The outlet pointed to delivery fees and Uber's treatment of drivers as potential drawbacks, noting that the premium could deter customers from ordering physical media.
"My app shows a $6 delivery fee"
GameSpot provided a firsthand look at the experience, reporting that the Uber Eats app displays nearby GameStop inventory including consoles like the Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, as well as collectibles and energy drinks. The outlet noted a $6 delivery fee for an example order, though fees may vary by location and order size.
Digital Commerce 360 and Polygon both framed the partnership as GameStop's attempt to stay relevant as physical media sales continue to shrink. By integrating with Uber Eats, the retailer aims to offer the convenience of same-day delivery that digital storefronts already provide, while keeping its brick-and-mortar stores as fulfillment hubs.
