Netflix's period thriller 'Bad Bridgets' has filled out its ensemble with eight new cast members, including Colin Farrell, Steve Coogan, Domhnall Gleeson, Charlie Heaton, Himesh Patel, Niamh Algar, and Simone Kirby, Deadline reported. They join previously announced leads Emilia Jones and Alison Oliver in the film, which is set to begin production in Northern Ireland in July.
"inspired by the book 'Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem, and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women' by academics Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick."
The source material, a study of Irish women who emigrated and turned to crime, gives the film a historically grounded angle that differs from a typical thriller, as Deadline noted.
Director Rich Peppiatt, who helmed the acclaimed Irish-language biopic 'Kneecap,' is at the helm, according to Variety. Production is slated to begin next month in Northern Ireland, adding a regional authenticity to the project.
"has assembled a star-studded cast including Colin Farrell, Steve Coogan, Domhnall Gleeson, Charlie Heaton, Himesh Patel, Niamh Algar, and Simone Kirby."
The sheer number of recognizable names attached suggests Netflix is positioning 'Bad Bridgets' as a major prestige play, with Farrell and Coogan among the most prominent draws, Variety observed.
