Three asylum seekers have been jailed for a combined total of 63 years for the gang rape of a woman on Brighton beach, in an attack that a judge described as entirely predatory. Abdulla Ahmadi of Iran and Ibrahim Alshafe and Karin Al-Danasurt, both of Egypt, were convicted after the victim was left unconscious during the assault, which was also filmed by one of the men, according to BBC News.
"entirely predatory, callous and contemptuous"
The judge's words captured the deliberate nature of the crime, which The Belfast Telegraph also labeled a "callous" attack. The Argus reported that two of the men carried out the repeated rapes while a third recorded the act on his phone.
The victim described lasting trauma in court, telling the judge that she still hears her attackers' laughter when she closes her eyes. BBC News quoted her statement as evidence of the psychological toll of the assault.
"she still hears their laughter when she closes her eyes"
The sentence, reported by The Daily Sceptic as totaling 60 years though BBC specified 63, also means the men now face deportation after serving their time. The attack highlights the vulnerability of lone women on public beaches and the role of bystander filming in such crimes, as noted in The Argus coverage.
