Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng is accelerating production of its Iron humanoid robot, with plans to produce over 1,000 units per month by the end of 2026. The company told the South China Morning Post that this manufacturing capacity will enable the global launch of Iron in 2027, with commercial deliveries beginning overseas later that year.

According to Interesting Engineering, Xpeng will initially deploy the robots as showroom sales assistants across China in the first quarter of 2027 before expanding internationally. The Guangzhou-based carmaker views humanoid robots as a natural extension of its existing AI and autonomous driving technologies, Interesting Engineering reported.

"competing with Tesla in a high-stakes race to dominate physical AI"

This race places Xpeng directly against Tesla's Optimus robot in the battle to commercialize humanoid robotics at scale.

"XPENG views humanoid robots as a natural extension of its AI and autonomous driving technologies developed for smart vehicles."

Tech in Asia noted that the company aims to raise output to 1,000 units a month by the end of that year, confirming the production target. The Iron robot builds on Xpeng's recent unveiling of China's first production-ready, fully in-house developed robotaxi with Level 4 autonomous driving, according to Interesting Engineering, underscoring a broader strategy to leverage shared AI infrastructure across vehicles and humanoid machines.
