Fountain O, an AI-driven film studio, has announced 'Odysseus: The Fall,' a 135-minute AI-generated adaptation of Homer's epic, budgeted at roughly $50,000, Hollywood Reporter reported. The film arrives ahead of Christopher Nolan's $250 million star-studded adaptation 'The Odyssey,' positioning itself as a direct competitor.
The internet can't decide which one it hates less.
The Fortress of Solitude observation captured the mixed public reaction to both the AI-generated project and Nolan's already controversial trailer.
Directed by Ash Koosha, who previously created the AI-generated docu-drama 'Dreams of Violets' for just $2,000, 'Odysseus: The Fall' will stream later this summer, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A trailer has been posted on YouTube. Koosha developed the project alongside his Tribeca Festival premiere, Variety reported.
The budget disparity is striking: the AI film cost roughly $50,000, compared to Nolan's $250 million, a ratio of 5,000 to 1, Fortress of Solitude calculated. The Chronicle emphasized that the film was made on a budget of just a few thousand dollars, though Hollywood Reporter and Greek City Times pegged it at $50,000.
The release raises questions about AI's future in Hollywood, Greek City Times reported, as industry observers debate whether AI-generated features can achieve mainstream theatrical distribution. Variety placed the project within a broader growing trend of AI-generated cinema, but audience reception remains uncertain.
