Brazil goods hit with 25% U.S. tariff as Washington acts on trade complaints

The Trump administration is imposing 25% tariffs on a range of imports from Brazil, citing what the United States deemed unfair trade practices by the world's 10th-biggest economy, WKMG News 6 reported. The tariffs will take effect July 22, according to senior Trump administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to KTAR.

The action falls under Section 301 of the Trade Act, KFGO reported, and was first proposed last month. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the directive, stating:

"Trump has instructed the U.S. Trade Representative to impose duties of 25% on most imports from Brazil."

Rubio's announcement underscores the administration's willingness to use unilateral trade measures against a major Latin American economy. Brazil, as the 10th-largest economy globally, represents a significant trading partner, and the 25% levy is expected to affect bilateral commerce across multiple sectors. The U.S. Trade Representative is now tasked with implementing the order ahead of the July deadline.
