Trump reportedly came close to restarting the war with Iran this week — then met with his military advisers, didn't like what he heard, and reopened indirect talks instead. The timing may not be a coincidence: America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve is running low, and with Iran still choking a fifth of the world's oil through the Strait of Hormuz, Washington has less room to absorb a shock than it lets on. The sticking point remains the strait itself — Iran wants control and tolls, the U.S. refuses, and neither will budge.
