Timothée Chalamet’s Joe and Selena Gomez ’s Fran’s meet-cute over Joe’s clumsiness takes a wild, alien-filled turn in the new trailer for Not Alone . The trailer for the animated film made by Illumination, the folks behind the Minions and Sing franchises, starts off peacefully enough: Introverted rocket mechanic Joe wakes up on a peaceful street with colorful houses. He drops the needle on a turntable that plays David Bowie’s classic “Space Oddity,” which serves as some foreshadowing as it soundtracks the rest of the clip. Joe then heads to the office, where he has fun soaring around and works on a rocket. He clumsily drops a part, which astro-botanist Fran picks up. He blushes, she cutely calls him out on his rosy cheeks, and their meet-cute blooms into a date. “You want some lunch, with, uh, with me?,” he stammers. “I could do dinner,” Fran suggests. As fireworks appear to spark between them, the rocketship they worked on takes off. But then, another ship comes barreling back at them on Earth, and it has cargo in the form of three small, cute, and witty aliens named Dunk, Welly, and Shirm, who are played by British actors Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou, respectively. The cast also includes Brett Goldstein, Allison Janney, and Lamorne Morris. Not Alone will be co-directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val. The trio have previously worked on Illumination films.
