Illumination has released the trailer for its upcoming animated film "Not Alone," which marks Timothée Chalamet's animation debut alongside Selena Gomez. The film centers on two rocket scientists whose meet-cute takes a cosmic turn when aliens arrive, as reported by both Variety and Rolling Stone.
According to Variety, Chalamet voices Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic, while Gomez plays Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist developing the world's first plant-fueled rocket. The two characters are brought together for the rocket's inaugural launch and experience immediate chemistry, Variety reported.
"Their meet-cute, triggered by Joe's clumsiness, takes an unexpected turn when aliens appear."
Rolling Stone noted that the trailer uses David Bowie's "Space Oddity" as a foreshadowing soundtrack, suggesting the pair's journey will involve more than just a launch. The film is set for an April release, according to the outlet.
Variety added that the project sees Illumination, the studio behind the "Despicable Me" and "Super Mario" franchises, venturing into sci-fi romance territory. With Chalamet and Gomez bringing star power to voice roles, "Not Alone" appears poised to blend the studio's signature comedy with a broader intergalactic narrative.
