The Strokes capped their Boston tour stop with a surprise guest. During their headlining set at TD Garden, the band brought opening act Hamilton Leithauser onstage to perform a cover of The Walkmen's 2012 song "Heaven," according to both Stereogum and consequence.net.
Leithauser, the former frontman of The Walkmen, is currently supporting The Strokes on their US tour for the upcoming album Reality Awaits. He joined the band during the encore after Julian Casablancas introduced him, expressing his admiration for the song and Leithauser's voice, consequence.net reported.
"It's a bit surprising they didn't go with a more obvious Walkmen cut like 'The Rat'."
The choice of "Heaven" over the band's more recognizable hit reflects a deeper respect for the track, which originally appeared on The Walkmen's 2012 album. Stereogum noted the unexpected selection, contrasting it with the band's louder, more iconic material.
The collaboration marks a rare crossover moment between two influential New York rock acts. Leithauser's appearance at the Boston show continues a tradition of The Strokes inviting opening acts onstage for covers during their tours, both outlets confirmed.
