ZeniMax Online Studios used a fan gathering in Germany to directly address concerns about the future of The Elder Scrolls Online following massive layoffs at parent company Xbox. At the ESO Tavern event, game directors told attendees that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game is not being put into a low-effort support phase.
"reassured fans that the game is not entering maintenance mode, explaining that Zenimax Online Studios is now roughly the same size it was when it shipped the popular Wrothgar and Summerset expansions."
The comparison to those earlier, well-received content drops appears designed to signal that the team still has the capacity to deliver substantial new material.
"moved to reassure concerned fans that it is still committed to the game despite the impact of significant layoffs at Xbox."
IGN France also reported that a revised content roadmap is coming soon, offering players a clearer picture of what to expect.
The developer's statements come in the wake of Xbox CEO Asha Sharma's cost-cutting measures, which IGN France noted included laying off about 1,600 staff. While ZeniMax Online Studios itself was affected, the studio sought to emphasize that its current headcount mirrors the period when it produced expansions like Orsinium and Summerset, which are widely regarded as high points in the game's history. The reassurance appears to have calmed some of the immediate anxiety among the community, though many players will be watching the upcoming roadmap closely for concrete proof of the studio's renewed ambitions.
