A 17-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 13-year-old DeAntwan McKeever, an incident that occurred nearly two months ago in Chicago's South Chicago neighborhood, according to Chicago police. The charge was announced after the teenager was taken into custody.
Chicago police said the suspect was arrested Thursday in the 3000 block of East 79th Place. He faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of issuance of a warrant, FOX 32 Chicago reported. The shooting took place in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue.
"McKeever was found with a gunshot wound to the head and died after a week in the hospital."
The victim was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, FOX 32 Chicago added. The Chicago Tribune identified the victim and noted the shooting occurred on May 21, adding context to the time elapsed before charges were filed.
