Steam Machine 'Verified' Labels Roll Out to Game Storefronts

Valve has quietly begun displaying compatibility badges for Steam Machines on game store pages, a feature that was notably absent when the hardware launched. The labels, matching the Verified, Playable, or Unsupported ratings already used for the Steam Deck, now appear alongside Deck verification info on select titles.

Steam Machine 'Verified' Labels Roll Out to Game Storefronts

Kotaku reported that the update finally brings the long-promised system to the store, calling it "a feature that was oddly missing at launch." The outlet highlighted Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced as one of the first games to receive full Steam Machine verification, signaling that Valve is actively testing titles for its PC gaming console.

Rock Paper Shotgun noted that the compatibility checks had been expected for weeks. "We've known for ages that the Steam Machine has a similar game compatibility rating system to the Steam Deck," the outlet reported, adding that for "the first fortnight and change of the Machine's release, though, the results of these tests haven't been visible."

The rollout mirrors Valve's approach with the Steam Deck, where the company tests games and assigns a sticker based on how well they perform on the device. Rock Paper Shotgun characterized the sudden appearance of the badges as if they were "left by the Compatibility Fairy," capturing the surprise of users who had been waiting for the feature.

With the badges now live, Steam Machine owners can more easily assess whether their library will work out of the box. The move addresses a key gap in the user experience, bringing the console closer to the polish of its handheld predecessor.
