New claims about Capcom’s future with the Resident Evil franchise suggest a narrowing focus. According to insider-gaming.com, a leaker has reported that the upcoming Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake and a rumored Resident Evil Zero remake will have direct narrative connections to Resident Evil Requiem, the presumed title for Resident Evil 9. At the same time, another insider has told the outlet that Capcom currently has no plans to develop remakes of Resident Evil 5 and 6.
"the upcoming Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake and a rumored Resident Evil Zero remake will have direct narrative connections to Resident Evil Requiem (RE 9)"
The claim positions the remakes as bridges to the mainline series rather than standalone projects, suggesting Capcom may be building a connected storyline across both older titles and the next numbered entry.
Fan chatter around Summer Game Fest 2026 has fueled speculation on how Capcom might tie these remakes together with the series’ future, insider-gaming.com noted. However, the outlet also reported that an insider has stated Capcom is not looking to remake the fifth and sixth mainline entries at this time, despite renewed interest in the remake series following the Code Veronica announcement.
"Capcom currently has no plans to develop remakes of Resident Evil 5 and 6"
If accurate, this would leave the controversial action-heavy chapters of the franchise untouched for now, while Capcom appears to double down on the survival-horror roots of Code Veronica and Zero. The differing directions highlight a selective approach to revisiting the series’ past, with some entries apparently deemed worthy of a remake and others left alone.
