SignHealth backs petition for BSL interpretation at emergency scenes after dispatch
By
Liam O’Dell
Summary
SignHealth, a deaf health charity, has endorsed a petition by Elizabeth Corbett demanding that British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation be available after emergency services are dispatched to an incident. Currently, deaf signers can use the 999 BSL service to contact emergency services, but interpretation stops once help is sent to the scene. SignHealth reports that most ambulance services in England, except in the North East, do not provide BSL interpretation via Video Relay Service (VRS) upon arrival at an emergency.
