According to a Moneycontrol report citing an interview with CNBC, Karp argued that enterprises are becoming increasingly concerned about surrendering valuable business knowledge to external AI providers.Karp questioned a model in which businesses rely heavily on third-party AI platforms while potentially giving up ownership of proprietary information and competitive advantages. According to the report, he said many enterprises are spending heavily on AI services without receiving enough value in return while simultaneously exposing their intellectual property to outside vendors.“The basic view among enterprises in this country is ‘I’m going to chillax and waste my time with tokens, I’m going to get no value, and they're going to get my IP,’” Karp said, according to the CNBC interview. The comments are part of Palantir's broader push around what it describes as "AI sovereignty”. As per the report, the concept centres on organisations maintaining ownership of their data, computing resources, AI models and business processes rather than becoming dependent on external AI providers.Earlier this week, Palantir released a nine-point manifesto emphasising that companies should retain control over their technology stack and be cautious about transferring valuable data to third parties. One of the key arguments made by the company is that enterprises should prioritise ownership and control over AI deployments rather than focusing solely on model performance. Also read: Meta revamps WhatsApp Business pricing with token-based AI model, restores service message chargesAccording to Karp, enterprise customers are increasingly voicing concerns about AI companies gaining access to sensitive business information. He said executives have privately expressed worries that their proprietary data, operational know-how and competitive advantages could ultimately benefit AI providers rather than their own organisations.Karp argued that customers increasingly want greater control over their computing infrastructure, AI models and data ecosystems. According to Moneycontrol, he said enterprises want assurance that they continue to own “the means of production” rather than transferring control to external providers. The Palantir chief has also criticised the broader AI industry's pricing approach. In separate comments reported by Moneycontrol, Karp argued that many companies are paying for AI “tokens” without seeing meaningful business outcomes, adding that enterprises are becoming more demanding about measurable returns on AI investments.According to Karp, trust will be critical to the next phase of enterprise AI adoption. As organisations scale their AI deployments, concerns around governance, ownership, and data security may become as important as advances in model intelligence.
