Cognizant has disputed the allegation throughout the proceedings, maintaining that its branding complies with applicable legal requirements. The case has taken several turns over the past year. An earlier order by a Single Judge of the Bombay High Court had declined to restrain Cognizant from using the contested mark. That decision was later reversed by a Division Bench, prompting Cognizant to temporarily remove the logo from several of its digital platforms while continuing to use its corporate wordmark. Also read: Google, Meta tell Delhi High Court they cannot act as 'super censors' of the internetThe company subsequently approached the Supreme Court, which overturned the Division Bench's order and restored the earlier ruling in Cognizant's favour. The apex court also directed the Bombay High Court to hear and decide Atyati's pending application for interim relief within a fixed timeframe. With the High Court now dismissing that application, Cognizant has strengthened its position in the litigation, although the final determination of the trademark dispute is yet to be made.Reacting to the order, Cognizant said it welcomed the court's decision and reiterated that it has acted in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements across the markets in which it operates. The latest ruling removes, for now, the possibility of interim restrictions on Cognizant's branding, while leaving the substantive trademark claims to be decided as the legal proceedings continue.
