The accident occurred on June 24. Deadline reported that de la Rosa "strayed close to train tracks alongside a ring-road on the outskirts of Annecy." Variety, citing local French media, said the tracks were in downtown Annecy and described them as "fenced off and not accessible to the public." The conflicting location details from the two outlets highlight confusion over how the animator came to be on the tracks. Both publications confirmed that de la Rosa was attending the festival when the incident occurred.
