Meta launches Muse Image AI model, expands image generation across Instagram, WhatsApp

New Delhi: Meta unveiled Muse Image, its first image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, bringing a new suite of AI-powered creative tools to Meta AI and its family of apps. Muse Image allows users to generate and edit images using conversational prompts. The company said the model combines advanced reasoning with real-time context to create high-quality visuals that can be downloaded or shared directly to chats, Stories and feeds. The launch builds on Muse Spark, Meta's AI assistant model, positioning Muse Image as a creative companion capable of understanding complex prompts, blending multiple images and producing photorealistic or stylised outputs. Meta said Muse Image will power more than 30 AI effects for Instagram Stories and image generation in Meta AI chats on WhatsApp, initially in select markets before expanding further. The company plans to bring the feature to Facebook, Messenger and other Meta AI experiences in the coming months. For marketers, Muse Image will also become available through Meta Advantage+ creative, enabling advertisers and agencies to generate campaign assets using AI. Users can create images from simple text prompts or modify existing photos by removing unwanted objects, generating functional QR codes, or creating infographics with legible AI-generated text. Meta has also introduced preset prompts to simplify image creation. These include restoring old family photos, trying trending hairstyles, transforming users into claymation characters or 16-bit gaming avatars, among other styles. Another feature allows users to upload photos of their homes and ask Meta AI to redesign interiors using products sourced from the web or Facebook Marketplace. According to Meta, Muse Image performs multiple reasoning steps before generating an image. The model analyses prompts, incorporates real-time web context through Muse Spark and blends multiple visual references to produce outputs that closely match user intent. Users can also @mention Instagram accounts in Meta AI to incorporate publicly available Instagram photos into creative projects, such as invitations or collaborative designs. Meta said account owners will have controls to disable this capability. The model also supports in-image editing through markup tools, allowing users to circle, sketch or annotate specific areas for refinement without restarting the creative process. Muse Image is available free for everyday use through Meta AI, while higher usage limits will be offered under Meta's subscription plans. The company said it will gradually expand availability to more countries and platforms. Meta also confirmed that Muse Video is currently under development as it continues building generative AI tools across its ecosystem.
