Meta Platforms has launched Muse Image, its first image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, expanding its artificial intelligence offerings for consumers, creators and advertisers across its platforms. The new model is now available in Meta AI and is designed to generate and edit images using text prompts, existing photos, sketches and annotations. According to the company, Muse Image can understand complex prompts, combine multiple photos into a single image and allow users to make edits directly on generated visuals. It also supports rendering legible text within images, enabling users to create content such as infographics and QR codes.Meta said Muse Image lets users download and share their creations across chats, stories and feeds. The model also includes preset prompts to help users get started, allows people to add photos to creations through @mentions and supports editing images by sketching changes directly onto them. The company is also extending the model across its apps. Muse Image powers more than 30 new AI effects for Instagram Stories and enables image generation in direct chats with Meta AI on WhatsApp, initially in select countries. Meta said it plans to expand availability to more markets and bring the model to Facebook and Messenger in the coming months.Beyond consumer features, Meta is using Muse Image to expand its AI tools for advertisers. The company said the model will power image generation capabilities within Meta Advantage+ creative, helping businesses create multiple versions of ad creatives while preserving their brand style. Meta said advertisers and agencies will begin receiving Muse Image-powered image variants over the coming weeks.Muse Image will be available to consumers for free through Meta AI, the Meta AI app and website, WhatsApp direct messages and Instagram Stories. However, additional image creation capabilities and higher usage limits will be offered through Meta's subscription plans. Users who reach the free usage limit can either wait for it to reset or subscribe for expanded access, the company said. The launch marks the second major AI model from Meta Superintelligence Labs following the release of Muse Spark, the company's text and reasoning model introduced in April. Meta also announced an early preview of Muse Video, an upcoming AI video generation model that it plans to roll out later.According to Meta, the company intends to use Muse Image across more of its products while reducing its reliance on third-party image generation technologies. Internal benchmark tests shared by the company showed Muse Image trailing OpenAI's GPT Image 2 model but outperforming Google's Nano Banana 2 in several image editing tasks.
