Meg Stalter, who recently made her Broadway debut in the comedic play Oh, Mary!, has been sidelined by a severe case of bronchitis, forcing her to miss performances this week. The Emmy nominee took to Instagram to share the news and shut down rumors that she had left the production for other reasons.
"I'm so sad to have missed [Oh, Mary!] shows this week as I'm very very sick with Bronchitis (we are hoping not pneumonia!!)"
Stalter expressed her concern that the illness might develop into pneumonia, according to Deadline, which also reported that she addressed speculation linking her absence to a Comedy Cellar appearance. The actress made clear her absence was strictly medical.
In her Instagram post, Stalter praised the understudies who have taken over her role and that of Mary's Chaperone. Hannah Solow, who had been playing the Chaperone, stepped into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln, while Jackie Sanders made her debut as the Chaperone.
"Thank you so much for the incredible [Hannah Solow] and [Jackie Sanders] who are worlds most talented and have stepped in to give you the BEST SHOW!!"
Stalter expressed hope of returning by the weekend. The understudies' swift coverage ensures the production continues without interruption, a testament to the depth of the cast.
