MP Power Management Company's Chief General Manager (Commercial – Non-Conventional Energy) has issued a 625 MW/1,250 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) tender in Madhya Pradesh. The tender provides (2 units of 250 MW/500 MWh and 1 unit of 125 MW/250 MWh) standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Madhya Pradesh. MPPMCL has invited online bids for the project until July 30, 2026, up to 15:00 hours, and has sought hard copies by August 3, 2026, up to 15:00 hours. The tender has been issued with Viability Gap Funding ( VGF ) support under the "Build, Own and Operate (BOO)" model. The project offers a minimum bid size of 125 MW/250 MWh, i.e., 125 MW with 2 hours of storage. For each 250 MW/500 MWh BESS project, the tender requires the bidder to identify and acquire suitable land parcels of up to 15 acres. For each 125 MW/250 MWh BESS project, the indicative land requirement is up to 7.5 acres at appropriate locations in proximity to the substations. Additionally, MPPMCL would not allocate land under this tender for this purpose. Scope of Work Under the scope of work of this tender, the developer is required to set up a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to make the energy storage facility available to MPPMCL on a demand basis for charging and discharging operations. The developer will also be required to establish the BESS and its interconnection with the State Transmission Utility (STU), i.e., Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited ( MPPTCL ). The tender requires the BESS developer to provide a minimum of 2 hours of discharging capacity at rated power with two cycles per day. However, MPPMCL, at its sole discretion, may schedule the discharging of the BESS in multiple sessions (more than 2 hours) each day during each cycle when the BESS is discharged below its rated power. Under the first session, the 250 MW/500 MWh BESS project is expected to provide 250 MW of power for 2 hours. Under Session II for discharging, the 125 MW/250 MWh BESS project is expected to provide 62.5 MW for 4 hours. Under Session III, the 250 MW/500 MWh project is expected to provide 125 MW for 1 hour, while the 125 MW/250 MWh project is expected to provide 62.5 MW for 2 hours. The Battery Energy Storage System Developer (BESSD) shall charge the BESS by drawing power from MPPMCL through the interconnection point at the STU and inject power back into the STU network in accordance with the dispatch instructions issued by the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) in consultation with MPPMCL.
