Famitsu's latest Japanese boxed sales data for the week of June 15-21 reveals a split top of the charts: Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream reclaimed the overall best-selling spot, while Square Enix's The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales led when combining sales across Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.

Cross-Platform Debut Lifts Square Enix's Elliot in Weekly Japanese Charts

According to Gematsu, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sold 34,957 additional retail copies on Switch, returning to the top after "being dethroned the previous week by Powerful Pro Baseball 2026-2027." Nintendo Life reported the figure as 34,967, a slight discrepancy between the two outlets, but both agree the life simulation title continues to dominate weekly sales in Japan.

"The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales was the top new release with 38,517 total retail copies sold across Switch 2 and PlayStation 5."

Gematsu

This cross-platform performance gave Square Enix a notable win, as Nintendo Life highlighted that "combined console sales boost Square Enix's The Adventures of Elliot." The RPG's debut on both Nintendo's newest hardware and Sony's console allowed it to outpace Tomodachi Life when aggregated, though individually each platform contributed a smaller share.

Meanwhile, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book managed 68,205 total sales across all platforms in its debut. Nintendo Life noted its "modest performance" and raised the question of "whether it underperformed in Japan." The figure places the Yoshi title well below the week's top sellers, suggesting softer demand for the platformer compared to the evergreen appeal of Tomodachi Life and the new Square Enix RPG.

Hardware sales for the Switch 2 were also reported by Gematsu, though specific numbers were not provided by the source. The weekly Famitsu charts continue to illustrate shifting consumer preferences, with cross-platform releases offering a clear advantage in aggregate rankings while single-platform titles like Tomodachi Life maintain strong individual sales.
