Netflix has announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international distribution for Greta Gerwig's upcoming film 'Narnia: The Magician's Nephew,' according to Variety. The movie is set for an IMAX and worldwide theatrical release on February 12, 2027, with Netflix handling domestic distribution in North America. It will debut on Netflix on April 2, 2027, following its theatrical run.
"The film will play in major North American chains including AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Cineplex, Marcus, and Harkins."
This partnership builds on an existing relationship between Sony and Netflix, including a recent $7 billion-plus Pay-1 licensing deal, as reported by Deadline. The arrangement allows Gerwig's adaptation of C.S. Lewis's classic to reach a broad global audience through both theatrical and streaming windows.
Gerwig, known for her acclaimed work on 'Barbie' and 'Lady Bird,' brings her distinctive vision to this prequel to 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.' The film's release strategy mirrors a growing trend in Hollywood where major studios collaborate with streaming platforms to maximize both box office and subscriber engagement.
