Takashi Yamazaki, the director behind the acclaimed Godzilla Minus One, has signed on to direct a new science fiction film titled Nue for 20th Century, with Ridley Scott's Scott Free producing. The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline both reported the project, which marks a major collaboration between the Japanese filmmaker and Scott's production banner.
"20th Century has acquired the original epic film Nue"
The film is being described as an original epic, though plot details remain under wraps. Deadline noted that Scott Free's Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss will produce alongside Keiichiro Moriya, Go Abe, Georgina Pope, and Amie Horiuchi.
"Yamazaki is teaming with Ridley Scott's Scott Free on the project."
This partnership brings together two celebrated names in blockbuster filmmaking. Yamazaki recently won international praise and an Academy Award for his work on Godzilla Minus One, while Scott Free has a long history of producing ambitious sci-fi including The Martian and Blade Runner 2049.
The acquisition by 20th Century signals the studio's commitment to original genre storytelling, as Nue becomes one of Yamazaki's highest-profile projects outside Japan. No release date or casting has been announced.
