Google has begun rolling out its Gemini AI integration to Chrome users in the United Kingdom, adding a new 'Ask Gemini' button with a sparkle icon in the upper right corner of the browser. The features, previously available only in the United States since January 2025, are now reaching UK desktop users on Mac and PC, according to multiple outlets.
The AI assistant can work across multiple tabs, enabling users to compare and summarize information from several websites at once. It also integrates with Google services such as Calendar, YouTube, Gmail, and Maps, allowing tasks like jumping to a specific moment in a video or scheduling a meeting without leaving the current page. MacRumors reported that the rollout includes Nano Banana, " a new AI tool that can be used to generate images from text." :: MacRumors The image generator is part of a broader push to embed generative AI directly into the browsing experience.
Beyond real-time assistance, Google is adding personalisation layers. SiliconReport noted that the expansion brings " core Gemini features like page summarization and cross-tab analysis to UK Chrome users, alongside new 'Memories' personalization and chat history import." :: SiliconReport This memory feature allows the AI to retain user preferences and past interactions, making it more context-aware over time.
Another notable addition cited by neowin is " the Nano Banana 2 image generator and the agentic Auto Browse system." :: neowin Auto Browse can autonomously navigate websites to complete tasks, exemplifying the shift toward agentic AI within the browser.
The rollout is gradual, with 9to5google and FlatpanelsHD both describing it as a phased launch. Google is also extending Gemini beyond Chrome: FlatpanelsHD reported that the assistant is starting to roll out to Google TVs in Europe, while T3 noted that an iOS version is expected in an August update. These expansions signal Google's intent to make Gemini a cross-platform constant across devices and services.
