Assemblymembers Greg Wallis and Jeff Gonzalez are in Palm Desert this week to help Coachella Valley seniors fight back against scammers who are targeting older adults with fake jury duty notices, government impersonation calls, romance schemes, and phony text messages. The two lawmakers are taking part in a free Senior Scam Stopper seminar this Wednesday, July 8, at the Palm Desert Community Center, running from 9 to 11 a.m. The event is meant to give seniors, families, and caregivers real tools to recognize scams, protect their personal information, and report fraud when it happens.Wallis and Gonzalez will open the event alongside Palm Desert Mayor Evan Trubee, then hand things over to the experts. Representatives from the Contractors State License Board, the Department of Insurance, the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, and the California Privacy Protection Agency will walk attendees through the scam trends they're seeing right now, along with warning signs to watch for and steps people can take to protect their identity and their finances. Local law enforcement and community partners will also be on hand to answer questions. The seminar is free and open to the public. It's happening at the Palm Desert Community Center, 43900 San Pablo Ave in Palm Desert. For more Coachella Valley News visit NBCPalmSprings.com
