Christopher Nolan has set his sights on Homer's 3,000-year-old epic, bringing 'The Odyssey' to the big screen as a star-studded blockbuster. According to revistaquem, the film features Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Zendaya. Folha de S.Paulo reported that with this project, Nolan is renewing the ambitions of his cinema, aiming to adapt one of the foundational texts of Western literature on a grand scale.

Nolan acknowledged the challenge of adapting the ancient poem. "Foi um filme difícil, mas tinha que ser," the Oscar-winning director told revistaquem, meaning "It was a difficult film, but it had to be." The quote underscores the director's commitment to tackling material that has inspired writers from Dante Alighieri to Margaret Atwood.

Filming has taken the production to natural locations in Europe, with en-vols.com reporting that the shoot relied heavily on scenery in Sicily and Greece. The Sicilian island of Favignana, part of the Egadi archipelago off the western coast, serves as a major set. "Favignana figure parmi les principaux lieux associés au tournage de L'Odyssée de Christopher Nolan," en-vols.com noted, describing its limestone cliffs, old tuff quarries, rocky coves, and crystal-clear waters as an ideal backdrop for Odysseus' mythical journey.

The choice of real locations over studio sets aligns with Nolan's history of practical filmmaking, as seen in 'Oppenheimer' and 'Dunkirk'. The epic is expected to hit theaters in 2026, with fans eagerly awaiting how the director will visualize the Cyclops, the Sirens, and other legendary encounters from Homer's tale.
