Starz has released the official trailer for its upcoming British boxing drama 'Fightland,' a series that combines championship glory with a bloody quest for vengeance. The show premieres on July 31, as reported by Deadline.
According to IGN, the story follows British-born boxer Duke Kilroy (Howard Charles), who becomes world heavyweight champion on the same night a vicious assault leaves his brother Calvin dead. Duke's reaction to the tragedy lands him eight years in a U.S. prison.
"Duke is devastated and his reaction in the aftermath costs him eight years in a U.S. prison."
Upon his release, Duke discovers a sinister truth and returns to London to settle scores. As Deadline noted, the boxer "navigates a path involving sinister discoveries" on his road to retribution.
Central to the conflict is Kingsley Marshall (Nicholas Pinnock), the criminal kingpin and former promoter whom Duke blames for setting him up. But Kingsley has vanished, leaving his wife Joy (Deborah Ayorinde) to face the fallout. Joy, as IGN reported, is "the love of Duke's life," adding a personal dimension to the violence that erupts when Duke begins working with a cartel desperate to control London's drug market.
