Palm Springs could finally be getting one of its most requested restaurant additions: an In-N-Out Burger. After years of speculation, the proposed restaurant appears to be moving forward, with a city traffic study concluding that the additional vehicle traffic should be manageable. If approved, construction could lead to an opening in late 2027 or early 2028.Even with the favorable traffic analysis, some nearby residents remain concerned about the impact a busy drive-thru could have on surrounding streets and shopping center access. Long lines have become synonymous with many In-N-Out locations throughout California.Supporters of the project note that the Coachella Valley already has several In-N-Out restaurants, giving planners experience with how traffic can be managed. One panelist pointed out that the proposed Palm Springs location sits near a site previously occupied by a bank and believes the property's layout should be able to accommodate customer demand.Another contributor said they avoid the drive-thru altogether, preferring to visit existing locations during off-peak hours and dine inside instead. They credited the Palm Desert restaurant with effectively directing vehicles through its parking lot to minimize impacts on nearby roads and expressed hope that a similar design would be used in Palm Springs. The discussion also turned to the popularity of regional burger chains. While In-N-Out remains one of Southern California's most recognizable brands, panelists acknowledged that personal preferences vary, with other chains such as Whataburger and Fatburger continuing to have loyal followings.Whether residents plan to wait in the drive-thru or head inside, the arrival of an In-N-Out Burger would mark another major addition to Palm Springs' growing dining scene. If final approvals move forward as expected, locals could be enjoying Double-Doubles and Animal Style fries without leaving the city within the next few years.
