Content creation is driven as much by emotion as ambition: Report

New Delhi: SanDisk today unveiled insights from its latest national study, “The Content Rush: Inside India’s New Always-On Creator Economy,” commissioned by Sandisk and conducted by CyberMedia Research (CMR). The report found that content creation is driven as much by emotion as by ambition. For most early-stage creators, the biggest motivation is self-expression. More than 80% said they feel more confident when their content connects with viewers, while 81% said they find meaning in turning everyday moments into stories. The study also showed that India's creator economy is no longer limited to a few major cities, with creators emerging from across the country. At the same time, regional differences continue to shape the way creators work and the type of content they produce. According to the report, North India is seeing more creators move towards professional content creation. South India stands out for consistency and a higher volume of content, indicating a more mature creator ecosystem. East India shows stronger operational discipline and early signs of structured creator businesses, while West India combines scale with a young, community-driven creator base. Approximately 75% of Indian creators publish content weekly, emphasising the consistency and cadence that now define India’s digital expression landscape. The report further found that creators across amateur, semi-professional, and professional levels are regularly producing Full HD videos and high-resolution images. A significant number of creators are also generating 5–10 GB of content every day, reflecting the growing demand for content production and digital storage. Tareq Husseini, Senior Director, Sales, IMEA, SanDisk, said, “India’s creator economy is at an inflection point, with participation expanding across geographies. In the process, creators are bringing the country’s rich culture, history, and untold stories to wider audiences in interesting ways. At Sandisk, we understand each creator creates differently, and we are committed to help them unleash their creativity by providing high-performance flash storage solutions to meet their evolving lifestyles and needs.” With the increase in production intensity and publishing frequency, workflow expectations are also changing. 60% of growing creators report daily or weekly storage constraints. Key challenges include slow file transfer (55%), insufficient storage capacity (52%), and running out of space mid-shoot (41%), which are the most frequently mentioned friction points. The study suggests that constraints evolve from time management and idea development to operational infrastructure as innovators mature. The study also highlighted that if storage limitations were removed, 64% would make longer videos, 58% would try new formats, and 45% would store RAW files. Nearly half of the respondents also said they would feel more confident creatively. The findings suggest that current output may reflect technology limits as much as creative intent or ambitions. As India’s creator ecosystem scales across devices, formats and geographies, workflow reliability is emerging as a critical enabler of participation and growth. Sandisk's range of microSD cards, pen drives, and portable SSDs are designed to help support creators throughout the content workflow, from capture to publishing content. Over 6,000 creators between the ages of 18 and 35 from amateur, semi-professional, professional, and full-time influencer groups were surveyed at a reported 95% confidence level across 13 cities across urban and aspirational India.
