Commission accelerates transition away from animal testing in chemical safety assessments

On 1 June, the Commission presented a comprehensive Roadmap towards phasing out animal testing for chemical safety assessments across the EU in 15 legislative domains, developed in response to the European Citizens’ Initiative ‘Save Cruelty-Free Cosmetics – Commit to a Europe Without Animal Testing’. The domains include chemicals for industrial and consumer uses, pesticides and biocides, pharmaceuticals, and food and feed additives.
