As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in workplaces, OpenAI has introduced a structured 30-day AI learning plan aimed at helping Indian professionals build practical AI skills using ChatGPT. The framework is designed around users' day-to-day work rather than a traditional AI curriculum, allowing them to learn by solving real workplace problems. The month-long roadmap is divided into six practical steps that guide users from understanding AI basics to applying the technology in their jobs and communicating the impact of their work.Step 1: Start with your job, not AIOpenAI recommends beginning by telling ChatGPT about your role, industry, the task that takes up the most time each week and how much time you can dedicate to learning each day. Using this information, ChatGPT generates a personalised 30-day learning plan tailored to individual work requirements instead of offering a generic AI course.Step 2: Learn AI fundamentals with Study ModeThe first week focuses on building foundational knowledge through ChatGPT's Study Mode. Rather than simply explaining concepts, the tool asks questions throughout the learning process to help users understand topics such as prompts, chatbots, AI agents and workplace automation through active participation.Step 3: Automate one repetitive task with CodexDuring the second week, users are encouraged to identify a recurring workplace task—such as preparing reports, cleaning spreadsheets, summarising meetings or tracking follow-ups—and use Codex to automate part of the process. OpenAI said Codex explains each step in plain language, making it accessible even to users without programming experience. The company also noted that Codex usage in India has grown 27-fold since January this year, with more than a quarter of requests now focused on non-coding tasks such as document creation and spreadsheet automation.Step 4: Turn the work into a visual case studyIn the third week, users can use ChatGPT's image generation capabilities to create a one-page infographic comparing the manual workflow with the automated version. The company said the latest image generation model produces clearer text in visuals and supports multiple Indian languages, including Hindi and Bengali, making it easier to share outcomes with colleagues or managers.Step 5: Practise explaining the impactThe fourth week shifts the focus from building AI solutions to communicating their value. Through ChatGPT's voice conversations, users can simulate discussions with a manager, explain how automation improved efficiency and receive feedback on their responses before having similar conversations at work.Step 6: Create a one-page progress reportOn the final day, ChatGPT compiles a summary of the month's progress, including skills learned, tasks automated, outcomes achieved and recommendations for the next phase of learning. According to OpenAI, the report can serve as a personal record, a learning portfolio or a roadmap for continued AI skill development. With the six-step framework, OpenAI aims to help professionals move beyond experimenting with AI tools and instead develop practical skills that can be applied to everyday work.By the end of the 30-day plan, users are expected to have a stronger understanding of AI, complete at least one workplace automation project, create a visual summary of their work and build confidence in using AI across their daily responsibilities.
