Manchester United have pivoted sharply in their midfield search, entering advanced talks to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £35 million. According to multiple outlets, the Belgium international is set for a medical on Tuesday after personal terms were all but agreed.

The move comes as a surprise given United’s long-running pursuit of Atalanta’s Ederson. TEAMtalk reported that while “all hope is not yet lost” over that deal, the Tielemans negotiation has overtaken it. Football365 noted that Villa are largely “powerless to stop” the transfer, with the player eager to move to Old Trafford despite interest from other clubs.

Fabrizio Romano has already issued his trademark ‘here we go’ confirmation, with Football365 revealing that Tielemans “is set to undergo his medical at Man Utd on Tuesday.” The 29-year-old represented Belgium at the 2026 World Cup, where they were eliminated by Spain, as Daily Post Nigeria noted, and now returns to English football after a season at Villa.
David Ornstein of The Athletic, cited by Football365 and others, broke the news that the deal is accelerating quickly. All parties appear keen to finalise the transfer as soon as possible, with the medical now the final major hurdle before Tielemans becomes the latest addition to Ruben Amorim’s squad.
