Mattel's Barbie Movie Architect Tapped as Co-CEO of Paramount-Warner Bros. Mega-Merger
Ynon Kreiz, the outgoing CEO of Mattel who orchestrated the blockbuster "Barbie" film, is set to become co-CEO of the combined Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery entity alongside David Ellison, multiple outlets reported. Kreiz announced his departure from the toy giant on Wednesday morning, and the rumor mill quickly pointed to a top role at the merged media giant, according to Whatfinger. The move comes as the merger clears its final legal hurdle. "The CEO who helped bring the 'Barbie' movie to the big screen is slated to co-lead the anticipated Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery mega-company." KTVZ reported that Kreiz, the former chief executive of Mattel, will be a co-CEO of the combined company, as announced by Paramount chairman and CEO David Ellison. The appointment positions Kreiz to apply his entertainment strategy expertise to a media conglomerate valued at $110 billion, according to Gokhshtein Media. The merger's closing date is now set for Tuesday, October 6, following a key court approval. Fightful reported that on Wednesday, September 30, U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín approved the settlement that Paramount recently reached with twelve states over their pending merger with Warner Brothers Discovery. With this approval, Variety reports that Paramount has set the tentative closing date, according to Fightful. Cosmic Book News also confirmed that hours later, the judge approved the merger settlement, allowing the deal that makes Kreiz co-CEO to close. Kreiz's departure from Mattel is effective October 2, as noted by Gokhshtein Media. His transition from leading the toy company behind the year's biggest film to co-leading a major Hollywood studio underscores the blurring lines between toy IP and film production. The New York Metropolitan reported that one source close to the situation told Variety that Kreiz will join David Ellison's Paramount, which is on the brink of closing its mega-merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, in a senior management role. The combined entity is expected to reshape the entertainment landscape under the dual leadership of Ellison and Kreiz.
