Safia Middleton-Patel, a Manchester United goalkeeper, made history by becoming the first female player of Asian heritage to play for Wales at a major tournament. Her achievement follows Neil Taylor, the first player of Asian heritage to play for Wales' men's side at Euro 2016. Middleton-Patel's debut was at the 2023 Pinatar Cup.
