An Overlap Original Series
Bad Blood: The Diary of a Cancer

At some point 1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer.

I was the same as you whenever I read that stat, I just always felt sorry for the other guy. Plot twist… you will occasionally be the other guy.

In June 2025, after a completely random visit to the doctor, I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia, which despite its fun sounding name, isn’t exactly a barrel of laughs. Sh** got real quite quickly.

Up until then, I was a healthy, active, happy and successful man, heading into middle-age with carefree abandon. Life has a funny way of humbling you.

As someone who’s lived their life in front of a camera, microphone or audience, my knee-jerk reaction was (no, not to monetise it) switch on the recorder and talk myself through it - making sense of my diagnosis (what even is Leukaemia?) the impending chemotherapy, my family and how our lives had been flipped on it’s head.

Look, there are tons of these podcasts out there, by some incredible people with stories far more horrific than mine (spoiler alert - I’m typing myself this a year later) - but if a perplexed, foul-mouthed audio diary from someone who once interviewed Jedward in a carpark is your thing, you’re in the right place.

Jamie

Hosted on Acast. Bad Chat with Greg James and Alice Levine

Due to OVERWHELMING public demand Greg (James) and Alice (Levine) are finally monetising their friendship.

Introducing… Bad Chat!

A club for sharing the best-worst parts of the week; shame spirals, existential crises, petty grievances, mild injustices - and this is just Greg’s morning. We will be forensic about the trivial, dramatic about the inconsequential, you can’t ask for fairer than that. Join the sometime colleagues, now legal Next of Kin, as they talk like no one’s watching. (But please do actually watch).

Call in, email in, fax in (yes, we have a real life working fax machine) with your obsessions, confessions, digressions and we’ll take it from there.

Send us an email: [email protected], WhatsApp us on 07775 199 566 or leave a message on our answerphone: 0333 011 2814

New episodes every Thursday.

Alice and Greg have entered the (bad) chat.

Hosted on Acast. The Bomb

How the nuclear bomb shaped world history. The scientists who raced to build weapons, the spies who stole the technology and the superpowers who grappled with deployment.

In Season 3, nuclear war is terrifyingly close. Can the superpowers of the Soviet Union and the USA prevent apocalypse? Nina Khrushcheva and Max Kennedy, relatives of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and US President John F Kennedy, tell the story of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Season 2 is about Klaus Fuchs, the brilliant young physicist from a pacifist German family whose spying for Russia changed history.

Season 1 tells the story of Leo Szilard, and the scientist’s discovery of the lethal potential for nuclear weapons in the race to beat Nazi Germany.

Fela Kuti: Fear No Man

In a world that’s on fire, what is the role of art? What can music actually…do?

Can a song save a life? Change a law? Topple a president? Get you killed?

In Fela Kuti: Fear No Man, Jad Abumrad—creator of Radiolab, More Perfect, and Dolly Parton's America—tells the story of one of the great political awakenings in music: how a classically trained 'colonial boy' traveled to America, in search of Africa, only to return to Nigeria and transform his sound into a battering ram against the state—creating a new musical language of resistance called Afrobeat.

For years, the world’s biggest stars made pilgrimages to Nigeria to experience Fela’s Shrine, the epicenter of his musical revolution. But when the mix of art and activism got too hot, the state pulled out its guns, and literally opened fire.

Fela Kuti: Fear No Man is an uncategorizable mix of oral history, musicology, deep dive journalism, and cutting edge sound design that takes listeners deep inside Fela’s life, music, and legacy.

Drawing from over 200 interviews with Fela Kuti’s family, friends, as well as scholars, activists, and luminaries like Burna Boy, Paul McCartney, Questlove, Santigold, and former President Barack Obama (just to name a few), Fela Kuti: Fear No Man journeys deep into the soul of Afrobeat to explore the transformative power of art and the role artists can play in this current moment of global unrest.

An Audible Original presented by Audible and Higher Ground. Produced by Western Sound and Talkhouse.

©2025 Higher Ground, LLC (P)2025 Audible Originals, LLC.

Intoxicating History

From the rise and fall of empires to the birth of modern diplomacy, civilization's greatest moments have been shaped by an unlikely force: what filled our glasses.

Join award-winning author Henry Jeffreys and renowned food writer Tom Parker-Bowles as they pour through history's most intoxicating stories. From Charles Dickens's beloved punch to the royal family's legendary drinks trolley, discover how alcohol has shaped civilizations, sparked wars, and sealed peace treaties.

Each episode finds our convivial hosts uncorking a different chapter of human history through the unique lens of alcohol. Whether they're recreating Dickens's beloved punch recipes, infiltrating the closely-guarded royal wine cellars, proving that the English invented champagne or discovering how Portuguese port sparked an international alliance, Henry and Tom blend scholarly insight with irreverent wit and a shared passion for historical peculiarities.

Authoritative yet wonderfully entertaining, Intoxicating History serves up serious history with a generous measure of irreverent humour. Through revolutions and peace treaties, cultural upheavals and technological breakthroughs, your hosts reveal how the contents of the glass have steered the course of history – usually while sampling the evidence, (purely for research purposes, of course!)

Whether you're a history buff, food and drink enthusiast, or simply love a well-told tale, raise a glass with us as we explore civilization's most intoxicating moments.

Pour yourself something suitable and join us for a journey through time, one drink at a time.

New episodes served weekly.

Hosted on Acast.
