Adidas has revealed an upgraded version of the World Cup match ball for the tournament's final stages, introducing a gold redesign inspired by the World Cup trophy itself. The updated Trionda will be used starting with the semifinals, continuing through the third-place playoff and concluding with the championship match, according to ESPN. The original tricolor design has been featured in 269 goals scored across 92 matches through Sunday night in Canada, Mexico and the United States. The initial ball design incorporated stars, maple leaves and Aztec eagles representing the tournament's three host nations. The new gold version replaces that scheme entirely rather than simply adjusting the color palette. Adidas selected Argentina's Lionel Messi, England's Jude Bellingham and Spain's Lamine Yamal to appear alongside the new ball in promotional material, despite none of the three players having yet clinched a spot in the tournament's final stages. The redesign prominently displays the four host cities for the remaining matches. Dallas, Atlanta, Miami and the New York/New Jersey area appear in gold-block lettering, while earlier host cities from the group stage and knockout rounds are featured in the background. This marks the first time in World Cup history that the official match ball has received a complete visual overhaul specifically for the tournament's closing stages, breaking from the tradition of minor colorway adjustments.
