NBC Palm SpringsWorld Cup drives record trading on sports prediction marketsnbcpalmsprings.comThe 2026 FIFA World Cup is driving unprecedented activity on sports prediction market platforms, with trading volumes reaching record highs as fans wager on tournament outcomes.According to data from Dune Analytics, prediction market platform Kalshi processed more than $30 billion in trading volume during June, an increase of more than 70 percent from nearly $18 billion in May. The platform has averaged more than $1 billion in daily trading since the World Cup began on June 11.Another prediction market, Polymarket, also reported record activity, reaching $10.8 billion in trading volume during June.Interest has been especially high surrounding Team USA's World Cup run. Ahead of Monday night's match against Belgium, more than $64 million had been traded on Kalshi and another $122 million on Polymarket on whether the United States will go on to win the tournament.CNN notes it has a partnership with Kalshi and uses its data to cover major events.
