Tor Project upgrades relay encryption with new Counter Galois Onion algorithm
Summary
The Tor Project is upgrading its relay encryption algorithm from an older design to a new, research-backed algorithm called Counter Galois Onion (CGO). This overhaul replaces one of Tor's oldest and most important encryption algorithms, improving defenses against a broader class of online attackers. CGO prevents attackers from tampering with encrypted traffic, adds forward secrecy, and brings Tor's encryption up to modern standards. Both Arti and Tor will support CGO in upcoming releases.
