In 2025, an average of eight people died daily on German roads, totaling 2,832 fatalities — 62 more than in 2024. The Federal Statistical Office reports that excessive or inappropriate speed remains the leading cause of fatal accidents. While total injuries rose about 1.7% to roughly 371,000, the number of serious injuries fell to approximately 49,200, the lowest since record-keeping began.
